How to Save Webpage for Later Reading

While browsing the web or scanning through news or top stories, you come across some interesting stories. But due to lack of time, you can’t read them now. So how can you save those pages to read later, or even offline? Ways are many, but which one is the best for you? Perhaps you are not sure. But don’ t worry. I’m going to list some of the best ways to save webpage. Keep reading to find out what they are.

For desktop browsers. You can choose to use web applications, extensions, and desktop applications.

1. Using Web applications to save webpage #

Chrome reading list–save webpage fast #

If reading later online is what you need, this is the best choice for you. This is a newly added function of Chrome, and it works really well. First, add the page you want to read later to your reading list. Then at the right of the address bar, click Bookmark this tab Bookmark this page. Finally, select Add to reading list. To access your reading list, at the top right of your browser in the bookmarks bar, click Reading List .

Web Browser–save single webpage offline #

This is also a good choice if you want to save a single page to html for offline viewing. You can right-click anywhere on the page and select “Save as” with any web browser.

Or press Ctrl+S (PC) or ⌘ Cmd+S (Mac). This opens the Save Page window in all major web browsers. This will save the page you are browsing as a single file with the formats below and you can view it offline. You can choose the location and saving format of the file.

This method applies for both Chrome and Edge.

2.Using Chrome extensions to save webpage #

Epubpress–save multiple webpages offline #

EpubPress is a free browser extension for Chrome and Firefox for turning web content into eBooks. You can open multiple websites and select the ones you want to include in a book. You can group relevant content together and output epub and mobi files. Besides, you can add title and expressions.

This extension saves a single webpage. Comparing with the page saved by pressing control+s, the page saved by save page We has less ads, but it failed to save the gif, which becomes a screenshot.

Dotepub–save webpage as an epub file #

Dotepub saves webpages as a single epub file. It removes all the ads and the conversion speed is fast. It also has some extra nice features. You can take a look at it’s website.

Save as eBook–save webpages separately and organize as an eBook #

This extension is capable of save webpages and also create an eBook by adding pages as chapters. If you want to create a eBook, you can navigate to the page and add as a chapter. After you add all the pages or selections you needed, go to edit chapters. Here you can choose which chapters you are going to include in your eBook.

For users who do not need further organization of the book contents, save as eBook works well.

3.Using Desktop applications to save webpage #

Desktop applications are not so convenient as extensions or online apps though, but it offers you more services and the content you saved is organizable and viewable offline.

Grabmybooks–grab webpage with an extension #

GrabMyBooks is an application that allows you to grab content from the web and easily convert it in an epub file fully compatible with your reader. It is a free tool available as a standalone java application or as an Android app. It has an extension that works with the desktop installed. The best part is the page it saved is editable.

BookIt Desktop–save webpages and organize them into a customized eBook This particular application allows you to grab various webpages to transform them into an offline eBook collection.

With this app, you can customize the book information such as title, author, language, file format, cover, and so on. You are allowed to add web pages from a URL, Chrome browser, and local directories. When adding a webpage, you can save the links on a webpage in bulk, or save a single page from various websites. To create an eBook, you can construct the table of contents with the web pages. After the book is generated, you can recompile it. It supports PDF/epub format.

It has one of the most intuitive user interfaces among those webpage saving tools.

As the picture below represents, you can add the articles by clicking the links, and you will be able to view it simultaneously in the program. You can always organize the order of these articles shown in your eBook.

4. Using mobile apps to save webpage #

Pocket–save more than webpages #

This is a web application that works with an extension. It also has an app working on mobile phones. The interface looks very nice. There’s a discover space, where you can read articles interested, save or share them. The pages can still be available without an Internet connection.

Instapaper–simple saving #

Instapaper works almost the same as Pocket. You can go to to create an account. And then download the extension. When you see some good pages, you click on that extension and the pages will be saved to your account. But the pages can only be viewed with an internet connection. You can also view the things you saved on the internet on the Instapaper mobile app. This would be convenient for mobile phone users.

As you see from the below picture, if your twitter post is an article, the Instapaper icon will appear under that post, and you can save it with one click.
